Chris in the Wilderness is especially important because it is a tribute to Noel Polchies, a Woodstock Wolastoqiyik Elder and Clarke’s close friend. Noel is the main character. Chris—a teenager—accompanies him into the great woods of central New Brunswick to learn the ways of wilderness living.
The book launch event for Chris in the Wilderness is on Thursday, September 4th at 7 p.m. at Connell House in Woodstock. Mary Bernard will be here from Cambridge, England. She will be reading from the book and speaking about its importance to the remembrance of Noel Polchies and the preservation of cultural heritage.
