The Fisherman

Arts, Culture & Heritage
King Street, Woodstock, NBĀ

Along the scenic banks of the Saint John River in Woodstock, a colourful fisherman casts his line across the water, forever chasing the thrill of the next catch. The Fisherman, created by local artist Kerry O’Toole, is more than a sculpture—it’s a lively tribute to Woodstock’s connection to the river and the traditions that flow alongside it.

What makes this piece truly special is that it comes to life with the wind. Designed as a wind-driven kinetic sculpture, the fisherman’s arms move up and down as if reeling in a catch, while the salmon leaps nearby. The entire sculpture slowly rotates a full 360 degrees, constantly changing its view of the river and the surrounding landscape.

Completely crafted from metal, the artwork was built to withstand the elements and remain a lasting feature of Woodstock’s waterfront. As long as the wind continues to blow across the river, The Fisherman will keep casting his line—bringing motion, colour, and a touch of storytelling to all who stop along the riverbank to watch.
