Automotive Mechanic

The Town of Woodstock is seeking a skilled and motivated Automotive Mechanic (Automotive Technician-with Red Seal Certification) to join our Public Works team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the Town's fleet of vehicles and equipment that support essential municipal services. Reporting to the Director Public Works, the Automotive Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of municipal vehicles and equipment. This includes light-duty vehicles, trucks, snow removal equipment, utility vehicles, and other fleet assets used in delivering municipal services.

 

KEY SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform preventative maintenance on municipal vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic system issues.
  • Complete repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and related components.
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure vehicles meet applicable standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and maintenance logs and files of equipment manuals/technical documentation materials.
  • Operate diagnostic tools and equipment to identify faults and recommend repairs.
  • Assist with seasonal maintenance and preparation of winter operations equipment.
  • Respond to emergency fleet repair situations as required.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Follow all occupational health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Perform work in varying weather conditions may be expected
  • Well developed organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed Automotive Service Technician
  • Red Seal Certification.
  • Valid New Brunswick Class 5 Driver's License, with clean driver's abstract.
  • Class 3 License and Air Brake Endorsement would be considered assets.
  • Experience working on heavy trucks, diesel engines, and equipment relevant to the provision of municipal services is preferrable.
  • 5+ years of experience preferred

  • Must be capable of lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Must have own, regular and essential tools for performing work. Specialty tools to be provided by the Town of Woodstock.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, and perform repetitive bending, reaching and crouching
