Meeting of Council Summary - Feb 24th 2026
Thank you to everyone who attended or tuned in at the recent Meeting of Council. It was a productive meeting, filled with meaningful discussions. If you were unable to join us, here is a summary of the highlights:
Community Recognition: The Mayor, along with several members of Council, volunteered their time at the MSCR event held at the Connell Park Raceway February 20-22. The event welcomed an “electric” crowd, visitors from across Canada, bringing in valuable economic activity to the community. The event had over 150 volunteers, hundreds of racers and an even larger crowd. At the same time, both the Girls and Boys WHS Basketball teams competed at Provincials in Saint John, proudly bringing home the Gold – a tremendous achievement for the Town of Woodstock. Congratulations to the athletes, coaches and families who supported them.
Key themes:
- Utility Report Card – The CAO Presented a year-over-year budget comparison, provided insight on the major capital investment, which included Well #3, and provided updates on the Manganese levels within the water system which are continually being monitored. The Utilities team were applauded for their continual commitment to longer-term fixes, developing strategies which allow for quicker responses and lower impacts on residents. Projections for the future Utility budget and planning was also discussed at the meeting, as infrastructure conditions will require attention in the coming years. It is projected that over $1M will be required in Major refurbishments over the next 4 years.
- Police Force Realignment – The Mayor provided an update on the organizational structure; the revitalized building is well underway for their operations and council discussed the expansion to surrounding Wards, beginning as of 2027.
- Traffic Study – Council moved a motion to approve the Request for Proposal, allowing a Traffic Study to be conducted. The report will outline any recommendations for traffic calming measures, signage, and pedestrian walkways and crosswalks. The public will be invited to participate in a poll for further insight on the Towns needs for improvement.
- Updates to the AYR Motor Centre – Council Approved Request for Proposals to receive updates throughout the building, with support from FDC funding. This included a new Dehumidifier, to replace the existing 30-year-old unit, lobby bathroom improvements and the continued installation of protective fencing at the Connell Park Raceway. Many of these items were already in the plans and budget for 2026.
- New Hire positions available throughout the Town – the Town has numerous positions for hire, Director of Engineering and Municipal Services, Police Inspector, EMO Director & Fire Chief and several Summer Student positions. To apply, email HR@WoodstockNB.ca
