COMMUNITY RECREATION & EVENTS LEADER

Position Type: Summer Student (May–August)
Department: Recreation & Community Services
Reports To: Recreation Manager / Recreation Coordinator
Hours of Work: 35–40 hours per week (evening/weekend work will be required for events)
Wage Range: Minimum wage to $18.50/hour, depending on experience and education
Work Term: Early May – Late August

Position Overview

The Community Recreation & Events Leader supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of community-wide events and drop-in recreation opportunities. The role includes event logistics, set-up, promotion, and onsite facilitation. This Leader works collaboratively with both the Senior Wellness Leader and Youth Program Leader in creating community experiences that serve all ages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, organizing, and delivering community events and recreation initiatives.
  • Coordinate event details, volunteer support, equipment, set-up, and take-down.
  • Develop promotional materials and support communication through social media and print channels.
  • Engage with residents and participants to encourage participation and build community connections.
  • Assist with cross-age programming, drop-in sessions, and intergenerational activities.
  • Complete post-event reporting, attendance tracking, and evaluations.

Qualifications

  • Current university or college student in Recreation & Sport Management, Event Management, Tourism, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Experience coordinating events, volunteering, or working in recreation is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment for event set-ups.
  • First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain.

Hiring Details

Applicants must be eligible for student summer employment and able to work evenings and weekends as required. A satisfactory background check will be required prior to start.
