SENIOR WELLNESS & RECREATION PROGRAM LEADER

Position Type: Summer Student (May–August)
Department: Recreation & Community Services
Reports To: Recreation Manager / Recreation Coordinator
Hours of Work: 35–40 hours per week (may include occasional evenings/weekends)
Wage Range: Minimum wage to $18.50/hour, depending on experience and education
Work Term: Early May – Late August

Position Overview

The Senior Wellness & Recreation Program Leader will plan, coordinate, and deliver accessible and engaging recreational opportunities for older adults and the legacy population. The role focuses on enhancing wellness, social connectedness, and quality of life through inclusive program design. The Leader will work collaboratively with the Youth Program Leader and the Community Recreation & Events Leader to ensure coordinated programming across all age groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and evaluate senior-focused recreation programs and wellness activities.
  • Facilitate monthly socials, drop-in programs, intergenerational activities, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
  • Build positive relationships with senior participants, caregivers, and community partners.
  • Assist with communications and promotion (social media, posters, schedules).
  • Track participation, support program evaluation, and complete required reporting.
  • Ensure safe, inclusive program delivery following municipal policies and accessibility guidelines.
  • Support community events and cross-program activities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Current university or college student in Recreation, Kinesiology, Gerontology, Social Sciences, Education, or related field.
  • Experience working with seniors or leading community programs is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • First Aid/CPR an asset; willingness to obtain prior to start.
