PARKS & RECREATION MAINTENANCE

Position Type: Summer Student (May/June– Late August)
Department: Recreation and Community Services
Reports To: Facilities Supervisor
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week – Monday – Friday (occasional evenings/weekends may be required)
Wage Range: $15.90 - $18.50/hour, depending on experience

The Recreation Department is seeking a motivated and dependable Summer Students for Parks & Recreation Maintenance to assist with the maintenance and upkeep of municipal recreation facilities, parks, fields, and green spaces during the summer season.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Mowing, trimming, and edging lawns at recreation sites and parks
  • Maintenance of sports fields, playgrounds, and landscaped areas
  • Litter collection and general grounds cleanup
  • Assist with planting, weeding, and flower bed maintenance
  • Operate hand tools and small equipment (training provided)
  • Support Recreation staff with daily maintenance activities
  • Follow all workplace health and safety procedures

 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in high school, college, or university
  • Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s licence considered an asset (if applicable)
  • Previous landscaping or outdoor maintenance experience is an asset, but not required
